If you like what you see here and feel you'd like to contribute to the Sailor Moon Expanded fanfic
universe you are invited to submit a story to SME. We are always happy to see new blood and fresh perspectives.
That being said, there are certain restrictions on what are acceptable ideas. First see the
Ten Commandments of Sailor Moon Expanded to see what
the basic rules are. To briefly summarize, anything that contravenes the anime is not allowed.
It is possible to work in stories in the spaces between episodes and arcs, but the events of
both the tv episodes and moves (with the exception of SM SuperS movie) must not be
contradicted. The anime is what we are basing a contiguous past, present, and future
on; it must be the same for all authors in this universe.
Also, events in written SME stories also cannot be contradicted. For instance, in SME Ami is involved with a fellow after the Ali-Ann arc. A story where she is in a romance with someone else probably wouldn't fit in the SME continuity.
Finally, certain things are outlawed either because they conflict with, a.) certain principles established in the SME history, b.) future plans of current SME authors, or c.) just good fanfic storytelling. Such submission killers include but are not limited to: Sailor Earth, Sailor Sun, Young Pluto, Young Saturn, Reborn Dark Kingdom Generals/Guardians or any other definitely dead villain, crossovers with anything but anime. Also, Sailor Moon Expanded has a certain flavor or feel to it that should be acknowledeged.
If you still feel you could work around the above limits, send us a submission. Now, when we say submission we don't mean a hundred thousand kilobyte file with a complete work. It needn't be your magnum opus but it would save both sides a lot of trouble if you gave us some idea of where you want to go. Otherwise the e-mail between an applicant and SME far too often runs like this:
From: Applicant
To: SME
Subject: Joinin SME
I'd like to join Sailor Moon Expanded. I have many ideas.

This guy was in the Silver Millineum and he was Rei's boyfriend. He gets reincarnated in today
and helps them fight evil.

Could you give us more of an idea of what you plan to do?

Sure, here it is, You see Sailor Sun and Sailor Earth (the guy) wake up and help the scouts fight
Jedite who wasn't really killed. Okay?
When do I start recieving mail from the SME list?

The above sounds a bit absurd but it happens more often than not. In a submission you've got to say what your story idea is about, a brief outline of events, a breakdown of new characters, and the consequences of actions taken. Simple character descriptions alone do not qualify either. We not only want to know who you propose to write about but what as well.
For example, a story proposal submission should go something like this:
-------------
Working title "Circle of Friends"
Story concerns the normal people who are friends with the Senshi. Umino, Naru, (Those three
nonames from Fit City), Motoki, Rieka and a couple of new characters.
Short Arc story that explores the scenery characters a bit more. Shows how the normal people are not just dumb monster fodder. Strains the Usagi-Mammoru relationship by having him brainwashed into liking a new character more his peer. (see below) Eventually, they find out the bad guy and break him restoring the affected characters to normal. Events are not earthshaking but do show us little explored characters more.
New characters
Enemies:
Datax, Computer intelligence bent on destroying the Senshi. It was created by some scientist
analyzing a Droid control crystal fragment. Goes Frankenstein.
Dr. Tamagachi. Brilliant toy maker turned evil by Datax
Friends:
Ross: Exchange college student who an Archeology major. His forensic knowledge eventually
aids the Senshi in discovering the source of Datax
Rachael: Another exchange student serves to complicate the situation by being a romantic distraction to Mammoru. Both Ross and Rachael meet Mammoru via Rieka-Motoki.
-------------
In the above, we are given an overall idea of the goals, characters, and impact of the story line on the SME continuity. Such a proposal will enable us to judge what would fit in or not without a lot of back-and-forth saving both sides a lot of time and trouble.
Despite the fact that we have a lot of things mapped out, we have an incredible number of story possibilities. The continuity stretches from before the Silver Millennium to beyond the Black Moon War. We're sure it's possible to find some space in those twenty-thousand-plus years.
If you do decide to join, note that SME is going to take a certain temperament to write in. You are joining in with a group of other authors, and what you do in your work impacts theirs. You have to be willing to work with the rest of us to try to make a harmonious whole. While you always remain in control of your creations, you should be willing to share your characters if someone else has an idea to use them. After all, it is a shared universe.
Now, if you've gotten this far you'd probably like to know how to make a submission. Right? Wonder no longer, you can use our handy to apply.
Thanks for your interest, The Crew of Sailor Moon Expanded.
